All 'generic' OS X installer disks are fully universal, they support  
all Macs; there's no added *system* stuff on the iMac disks.

What are missing are the bundled programs that come with the iMac.

You're looking in System/Library/Extensions right?

Did that tutorial specifically mention a version of the OS? It may not  
be supported with 10.2.8...
