Officially, Apple wants you to buy the box set for Snow Leopard when
upgrading from Tiger, since you haven't payed for Leopard.
However, the non-box set version will still upgrade from Tiger. (I'm
95% sure.) So the decision is up to you.
(The box set is the version that includes iLife, and iWork. )

My wife has a 2006 17" Intel iMac, which came with, and still has,
Tiger (with all the updates). Recently she came across a program
that required at least Leopard. So I'm thinking of upgrading her.
Can I go from Tiger to Snow Leopard directly? Do I just need the
retail upgrade box? Anything to watch out for?
Thanks
