If your wife does not use a lot of programs or storage, I would say keep your current HDD for now. A good way to make a computer speedier and more efficient, though, is to get a bigger, faster drive. You can get up to 2 terabytes now, I think, and as fast as 10,000RPM, so the sky's the limit.
