Simply put, I have an iMac G3 (Graphite), 600MHz, running 10.4.11 sitting on my kitchen table. I like to crank up iTunes and listen to music when I'm in the kitchen. I can also pull up recipes and surf. I just upgraded to the new iTunes 9.2 and now when I try to launch it, it says something to the effect "iTunes requires a G4, G5, or Intel processor" and that's as far as I can get. Question. Can I get past this without downgrading to the previous version? If not, how can I download the previous version? Version 9.1.1 worked.
Whole long drawn out deal... I know these G3s are aging, but they still work. Whenever I would launch iTunes, it would periodically tell me that there was an update and ask me if I wanted to download it. If I chose to download it, it would launch Software Update which would promptly tell me that there were no updates. I figured that this had something to do with the fact that the system requirements for the more recent versions of iTunes stated that you had to have a G4 or better. However, if I went to apple.com and clicked on iTunes to download the latest version, I could. It would install (despite the fact that I was running a G3) and everything was good. Sometimes I wasn't doing this because I wanted all the new features that the new version of iTunes offered as far as iTunes itself. Alot of times I did this because of the enhancements that this new version of iTunes offered for my iPod touch, which I sync with this machine. (Note: I had plans to start syncing my touch on my MDD G4 that has a USB 2.0 card.) If you look at the iTunes download page, on the left-hand side, at the very bottom, it has a link for G3 Users. This link takes you to some version 8.x from July 2009. I know a more recent version, 9.1.1, works because I'm running it on a G3 on my desk at work (it's not a primary system -- I refer to it as my overgrown iPod because I mostly use it to place music with Genius Mixes). Unfortunately, I had *just* trashed the img file on the office G3 when this problem came up with the kitchen G3. So, where can I download 9.1.1? And, to piggyback on my own thread... If I do manage to get 9.1.1 back on the kitchen system, am I going to be able to upgrade my 1st Gen touch to the new OS4. I'm doubtful. Looks like the 1st Gen got left behind anyway. Bottom line. I need to get the kitchen G3 back online with iTunes 9.1.1. I can deal with the iPod touch issue by using my MDD G4. Any suggestions. -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs.
