Hi madamekelly. Lots of us around! :) Where'bouts you located, if
you don't mind my asking?
have developed problems with viewing videos. I do not know if it is
because my imac is so old, or is there some other reason? I mostly
use my imac for reading news, watching videos, email,
social networking, etc. Can anyone tell me in simple English what
might be the problem.
It's quite possible that your Mac is so old it cannot handle the
latest codecs well. (A codec is the bit of software that decodes the
video so QuickTime can display it). That's certainly a problem with
the oldest iMac G3 and older iMac G4 models. But to really tell, we
need more information.
You haven't actually said what the problem is. "problems with
viewing videos" could mean anything from direct error messages saying
you cannot view the video at all, to just stuttering. Can you be
more specific as to exactly what's not working correctly?
What is the source of the video -- is this something sitting on your
HD? Or it is a CD or DVD? Or is it from the 'net? If the latter,
how 'bout a sample URL so we can take a look?
What application are you using to play the video?
And while we're at it, please tell us about your iMac: exactly what
model is it, what year, how fast, how much memory, etc... If you're
not sure, take a look at the iMacs listed here:
