G'day Listers

I sent Kelly offlist instructions of how to take screen shots of the 'About
this Mac' window

First the good news, Kellys got a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running 10.4.11

Second, the bad news, it's only got standard 1 GB DDR2 ram.

1. Kelly, your Mac should handle video fine, except you might have a lack of
memory problem.. You might try the Perian and Flip4Mac Quicktime extensions tho.

http://perian.org/

http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.asp?prodid=flip4macwmv

There's a link on the Flip4Mac page to a version suited to 10.4

2. Your Mac can run any version of OS X right up to Lion.

3. I suggest you upgrade your ram to 2 or 3 GB (keeping your present 1 GB if
it's a single stick, which from memory they were).
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_2006

You can add a single 2 GB Stick of ram for $33.99 (to make 3 GB) or a 1 GB
stick for $18.99 (to make 2 GB), or even throw away the 1 GB and go for 4 GB
($64.99), all depending on what you can afford.

A golden rule is the more ram the better, but you'll need to check what memory
configuration you've got.

To check the memory, open the 'About this Mac' again, and click on the 'more
info' button. You'll get a list of details. Under 'Hardware' choose 'Memory'.
You'll get something like…

Memory Slots

        DIMM0 1GB DDR2
        DIMM1

However, if you get

        DIMM0 512 MB DDR2
        DIMM1 512 MB DDR2

then you'll need to throw away the sticks and replace both. You'll need help
probably to replace the sticks, they can be hard to get out and insert.

Regards

Santa
