Depending on what you want to spend, you can get a G5 which will be faster
than any G4, or find a cheap Intel mac such as an original Macbook, even a
Core Duo will be faster than a G5. The Core Duo macbooks can be found on my
local Craigslist for between $150-250 with a battery that doesn't hold a
charge, but using it on a desk a battery isn't needed.

As for the clicking, that I find strange. I've always found that to be the
PSU to be the issue, but I'm not sure of that if the new PSU is a known
working one, I've never seen that before, but I would assume it's something
to do with the power on signal, possibly short bursts instead of a steady
signal?
