Can’t new external hard drives be formated or otherwise made to work with OS X 10.4 Tiger? I do not understand why not.
A user group member wants to buy an external hard drive to back up her old iMac with 10.4 Tiger. It seems that models available at the Apple Store, Best Buy, and other outlets specify OS X 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard or later. This is with models like Seagate Slim and LaCie Porsche, whether USB bus powered or with power adaptor. I see that macsales.com/OWC has external drives that accommodate everything from Mac OS 8.6 to the latest OS X.
