You can have Front Page assign a user name that it will use when sending
mail. That helps if you only allow "from local domains" or "local addresses
(if from a local address)". In the frontpg.ini do
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
There is the question of, being an ISP how do you provide services to a wide
range of customer types and give them the flexibility they need while trying
to stay off of these damned "Orbiters", "Asteroids", and whatever other
list? I think this is a place where some accountability is in order not a
group of putz-weenies who want to power down the e-mail world to stop
spammers. Highways bring speeders, Oceans breed sharks, Big Cities have
high crime.... should we close the highways that lead to big cities, Oceans,
and fine anyone who we discover has people driving across thier yards in the
middle of the night?
I for one am glad that IMAIL does not support the Black Holers, Orbiters,
MAPSI's or any other gang of "need a lifers" that want to tell us how to run
our mail systems. I have restrictions in place. I monitor and pursue
Spammers with bats if necessary, but I will not yield to the will of a
"behaviour modifications system" bent on reducing functionality in the name
of increasing security. There will be no need for security if the Internet
Mail system is not functional. No one will want to use it!
Resist the temptation to yield to cowardly isolationism and fight SPAM head
on. One dork at a time you can nail them good. I need to allow some
outside traffic so as not to inconvenience my customers and if you use my
few cracks to squeeze your mail through, I will send a follow up message
with your phone number on it to all of my users telling them that you want
to give them a new car, a few pounds of gold, or a free vacation to the
tropics. Like answering the phone all day for nothing? Or maybe I will
track down your family and call your mother and tell her what you do to make
a living (with a little color added). That protects me from SPAM in a big
way. I am serious, I have done this and continue to do so. This is no
different than when a loud teenager in my niegborhood comes home with his
radio blaring at 3AM. It is a pain to get up, cross the street in my
bathrobe and zap out on a kid in front of his friends, but it is the kind of
thing you usually only have to do once. That is behavior modification!
