I would like to see the default behavior of IMail be that each mail domain
uses a fully qualified domain name (eg, mail.domain.com) for each virtual or
IPless domain and that the application default to setting the alias to
"domain.com" instead of "mail.domain.com", since "domain.com" is now the
norm rather than the exception for Internet e-mail addresses. And since the
mail administrator has the ability override this setting in a situation that
falls outside the norm, this behavior would be preferable to me.
What say you???

Subject: [IMail Forum] Use domain.com or mail.domain.com?
We're in a quandary as to the name for our Imail Virtual Hosts. Should
they be mail.domain.com or domain.com? As far as I am aware the pro's
and cons are:
1. the DNS will only have a host of mail.domain.com, not domain.com, so
it would be 'proper' if Imail identified itself as mail.domain.com.
2. if we use mail.domain.com, then the users are by default created
@mail.domain.com instead of @domain.com. While the domain part of the
reply-to address can be over-ridden, it'd be preferred if the
administration was simpler and the user's reply-to address was
automatically created at the @domain.com domain.
Any comments appreciated,
Richard in Australia.
