There is nothing inherent in Imail that prevents it from
working with MS SQL 6.5 and/or MS SQL 7. Our billing
software (Platypus) uses SQL 7. The manufacturer
(Boardtown) has a DLL based on the Ipswitch sample
code that queries our user database via ODBC from Imail.
They do support separate domains although there are
limitations with that. You may want to contact them
(www.boardtown.com) for details.
In any case, we went back to the Imail registry for other
reasons. We are ISPs and are concerned about our email
service being down due to a problem on the system where
SQL server runs (it's a separate server). Having two different
servers with separate functions doubles the probability that
one of them will be down. Platypus supported Imail before
5.0 (by running adduser after a change) so the Imail database
can be kept in sync with the SQL tables without using the
external database feature.
