OK I made the change now I can check email via the web but not through the
client Like outlook...
What would cause that?

No, as long as you do not change the user directories or anything like
that.  If they are still using the old domain for e-mail I would suggest
putting the old domain in as an alias to the primary until the changes
all settle down.
