I gave up subscribing in digest mode for all my mailing lists for the
reason you cited. Instead I opt to receive the messages in real time and use
the "message rules" of my mail program to move all list messages to their
own Inbox-subfolder. It performs the same function because list messages
aren't mixed in with all of my personal e-mail. This way works better
because the messages continue to arrive in real time and replies have the
proper subject. Perhaps that will help your difficulty.
