Recently we installed a CISCO Pix firewall on our network. At that time
two things occurred - one I want to fix and the other I just need to
know if it really matters.
Short background: one domain; no changes were made to Imail or any
other part of the network when the PIX was installed (except of course
the router to make it work with PIX). Mail is flowing ok with no
reports of rejected mail except my problem below.
1 - Prior to the Pix installation Netscape Communicator users were able
to SMTP auth. while dialed up through ISPs. Communicator is set to use
"bobcat" server for both SMTP and POP3. Imail is set to relay for a
specific group of local VPN addresses. Samspade and other testers ok'd
us as not relaying. In Communicator, upon SEND click, the local user
password was requested. Once sent, Imail authenticated Netscape users as
local users and passed our outbound mail. (I've got sent mail on my home
computer as proof.) QUESTION: although we apparently have SMTP enabled
through the PIX for normal circumstance, what do we need to do to
re-enable SMTP authentication for Netscape users? Is it a PIX or Imail
fit? (I have not tested it personally, but Outlook users report no
change for them. -- go figure.)
2 - Immediately upon PIX installation, Imail logs stopped indicating
NOTIFY=[etc] on any recipients and hasn't written one since. Does this
matter?
Appreciate your input.
