V,
I definitely agree with all that you said. It seems that everyone wants it now
but no one is willing to get involved in creating it ( with a few exceptions,
mainly most everyone on this list).Allot of use have made contributions in one
way or another to this list that
everyone has benefited ( the number of
hits on my users guide shows
that)
Although I only know enough about API and
ASP to be very dangerous I do see the benefits. If I can be of any use by
testing what you guys create or anything else by all means please let me know. I
do not mind blowing up (re-configure, I mean ;) ) my test box for worth-while
testing.
So go
ahead and add me to the petition.
Bill James
Gosh, sorry about that! Seems like OE went
nuts on me, I only sent it once as far as I can tell.
PS. Change is never accomplished by those
who say why something new can NOT be done. That is easy to do and
therefore common in every place you go. It is seeing a way to change
things that is usually far more difficult than actually changing them. I
do not discount that making an SDK would be a real job... might it be as
hard as Microsoft re-inventing themselves to catch the Internet rush? I
doubt it! Might it be as important to us and to Ipswitch? I
strongly think so. Bet against that if you will, but don't bet
much. The total package you offer will be all that keeps Internet
companies alive within 18 months. I don't care to be seen as a leader or
something like that on this issue, just a facilitator. I don't have idle
time to spare on anything. This is a serious need and I see a lot of
people on here wanting this, and have had quite a few responses already today
on this topic to confirm that. Does anyone have a better
suggestion? Would you rather I just drop it? I am near just
looking for a server with an API and starting over. I will not be one of
the guys left hanging on to the old days. I was a big Novell guy in the
mid 90's and I saw the same things coming down the pike then, and got the same
"Can't be done" excuses then too...

Subject: RE: API Petition - Re: [IMail
Forum] ASP Help
Anyone else getting 6 postings of this message?
Just trying to figure out if it is my server, or the list server.....or if
Vaughn is just really eager!
;-)
Anyone want to do a round two? Let's face it the
future of ISP's and IT departments relies on the services that they can
offer, how closely those services can be integrated with existing business
models, and how rich the features are. I am not beating up on the
IMAIL web interface, I just think that there needs to be an API set for
their own good. If ISP's all become ASP's who will buy mail server's
that can not be integrated in to applications? We need this thing
too. We are all invested in Ipswitch / IMAIL and know and trust
it.
If you would like to re-petition Ipswitch for an API,
please send me an email at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and I will collect and add them to the first petition list and send
them in again. I did get a response, from Ipswitch, last time
thanking me for doing the legwork and promising consideration, but a it
has been 6 or 8 months since then and not a creature has stirred
not even a mouse... [whoops] I mean nothing at all has been heard on
it. I said last time that I thought an API set would be of value and
that I would be glad to pay for it. Any seconds? I think there
needs to be a serious number of registered IMAIL users names in there
to get action. I say now as I always have that Ipswitch is a
responsive company, we just have to make some noise on this
one...

Serdar,
You are not
alone. We have petitioned IPSWITCH for an API set and are all
hoping to see it in version 6. Someone mentioned another
platform on this list that supports API calls into it...
What was that?
