I appreciate your reticence. But at this point Norton's and Executive
software's defraggers have earned their respect. I haven't heard about
anybody, in a long time, getting their NT scrogged by a defragger. But you
really otta backup as much as you can. This is where colo can really be a
pain.
( After all the horror stories I heard about jsut trying to upgrade IIS3 to
IIS4, I decided to keep colo machine at IIS3 rather than risk IIS4 and have
to reinstall NT, which was the only way to get to a stable situ if IIS4
left you unstable. )
What you might try doing, if you've been smart in your partitioning, is not
to defrag the c:\ system drive, but only defrag the partition where you
have located all your Imail virtual domain dir's, which is the partition
that really needs it, due to the very heavy r/w traffic from mail on/off.
You might also consider leaving the defragger running continuously as a
service at a low priority so your disk stays in good shape.
