I assume you applied all patches and updates after SP4 at the same time? If so, then yes, you have to be careful when applying many patches at once. Usually it's best to apply them a few at a time to make sure they are applied properly.
However, I did experience one case where I got tired and applies some 50-60 patches at once to see what it would do.
