The vir* and dec* are Declude log files. You need to look for the sys* and log* files, possibly in the same directory. Those are the IMail log files. If you don't see them, look at the SMTP and POP3 services in the IMail Administrator to see where your logs are going and what they're named.
It's the sys* that you'll want to trace the messages in to find out what's going on.
