Title: SMTP errors from my system to one of my Imail servers

Hugh? Why were you trying to send Hugh? He’s a great guy. Good friend of mine.

Thanks all for your advice. Turns out I had someone trying to send HUGH attachments via email and the SMTP service was so busy it couldn’t respond to my requests. The thing that threw me was that the Web interface was working when Outlook wasn’t.

I’m going to have to set hard limits on the max email size. It hasn’t been a problem until now. Last week I had a guy try to send a 24M attachment! Then, he complains because it won’t complete! Geeze! Perhaps I need to start an email training or something.

From one PC or all?  I hate to ask, but have you tried rebooting?

Here’s the error I get when trying to send an email using OE thru Imail 1:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Declude', Server: 'mail.imail1.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

A google search of the error message has not told me much other than the port 25 is being blocked or that my mail server is not accepting connections. Could it possibly be a virus?

Sorry. A little more background.

1)       Imail 2 is using port 25 as well. I can telnet to it without issue. It’s only Imail 1 that gives me issues.

2)       I host these servers myself so I am my own ISP. To get to these servers I need go no further than my own firewall.

The trick of this is that, to my knowledge, nothing has changed on my firewall or my network.

Is IMail 2 also on port 25?  What ISP are you using?  Some ISPs block currently port 25 traffic except to their mail servers, and more are joining them every day.

Subject: [IMail Forum] SMTP errors from my system to one of my Imail servers

Hello All,

I’ve got 2 Imail servers here (7.15 HF2) and starting today I’ve been having problems sending emails through one of my Imail servers, I’ll call it ‘Imail 1’. I cannot send using Outlook or Outlook Express thru Imail 1 but I can if using the Web Interface. I also cannot telnet to Imail 1. I get an error message that port 25 is being blocked. Now, my other server, Imail 2, can send emails just fine. I can telnet to it without issue. Let me also note that Imail 1 is my hosting mail server and is used by hundreds of folks. No one has contacted me in any way to complain which leads me to assume that it’s me. I’ve scanned my system for spyware and such and the only thing it found was a bunch of cookies and WildTangent, which I removed. I’ve tried disabling my McAfee AV software’s email scanner, I’ve rebooted my system, all to no avail. While I am running XP Pro I am not running SP2 and do not have the XP firewall active.

Any thoughts on troubleshooting this?

Thanks!
