Mike,

I think that it is much less likely that there is "something up with
SpamCop" then there is "something up" with your iMail installation, server
or network. If SpamCop was suddenly blacklisting the entire Internet, you'd
find not only this mailing list deluged with complaints about it, but pretty
much every other mailing list that mail admins subscribe to. I've not heard
a peep about anything being wrong with their servers lately.

I would also have to agree with the other admins here who have advised
against using SpamCop as a single test for deletion. While I find it an
accurate enough list for REJECTION of e-mails, deletion is another thing
altogether. Unfortunately, Imail won't let you do any type of rejection at
the envelope level. If you already have MxGuard, you would be much better
off using that as a tool for tagging RBLs. To be honest, about the only RBL
that I would even consider using for instant deletion is one of my own
creation, or perhaps china.blackholes.us, as long as you don't mind losing
all e-mails from China (I don't, but that's just me).

We use our own DNS and the records point to the correct IP. The other
strange thing is when this first started all mail was being flagged as bad
and deleted. Then without me changing anything the Spamcop Bounce and
header was being added. Then about an hour later just IP failures again.
That's when we removed it from our list of BL servers. That's what makes me
thinks something's up with Spamcop. What are the chances of there IP being
masked and the queries being redirected somewhere else?

We have MXGuard and Clamav running on our server. But we use IMail spam
filters as well.

Do you use your own DNS or a providers DNS? I have heard of providers in
the past setup a spamcop zone and return 127.0.0.2 for any query. I have
also seen other providers (AT&T) return nothing.

No we don't have a front or back end gateway. If I set Spamcop in IMail as
a list to check it is still reporting almost every email as spam. I had to
delete it entirely. The strange part is that it reports to my mail server
that an IP address is blacklisted but when I check it through the web
Spamcop gives me a different answer.

It is almost as if my IMail server is being directed to another
list????????????

I would not recommend that setup at all (delete with spamcop). Spamcop
currently has gmail servers listed. Last week AOL and earthlink was listed.
Spamcop is notorious for listing big ISP's mail servers. Don't get me wrong
its a great test when used in a weighting system.

In regards to your issue do you have a front end gateway that sends mail to
your server? Could that be listed?

They are in the trusted list for immediate deletion.

After looking at the logs further I noticed that SpamCop reported every
query from my mail server as listed.

Has anyone seen this before? I have been looking at there newsgroups and
there is mention of their service being down.

1st question. Why are you deleting based on one blacklist?

We had a problem and I was hoping that someone could shed some insight as to
what may have caused the issue.
We had Spamcop set in the filters as a trusted list with automatic delete.
Yesterday at about 2am edt mail stopped getting delivered. I checked the
server from the outside and all looked fine. Then I started looking at the
logs. Mail was being accepted as inbound then when the spam check was done,
it would check Spamcop and fail to connect. After the connection failed the
mail was automatically deleted. The strange part is that the spam check did
not fail, only the connection to Spamcop did.
Why would mail be deleted when the connection to Spamcop failed?
