Keith....

It's pretty obvious from what Kevin says that 8.15 IS affected...and the
patch that is out is only for 8.2x. So if you want to be protected, upgrade
to 8.2 and then apply the patch.

I for one don't agree with Ipswitch having to release patches for every
single version of their product. You don't see Microsoft releasing updates
for Windows 95, 98, ME or NT anymore...I am a firm believer in if a newer
version of a product is released, the manufacturer should spend all their
time working on any fixes or upgrades for that version, rather than being
forced to go back and fix up bugs in older versions. That just limits the
support you can get on the later releases. That's just my opinion anyway.

Kevin,

When you said "that is correct" are you referring to that there will
be NO patch issued for 8.15 for this issue? If no patch is issued, is 8.15
affected by this exploit according to Ipswitch?

Hello Chris,

Yes, that is correct. This patch is only for 8.2x.

Bye for now,

kg

Okay so if I understand this, 8.0 through 8.15HF2 and 8.2 are affected.
There is a patch for 8.2, but there will not be a patch for 8.0/8.15?

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay.

The 8.22 is an update and anyone running 8.2x gets at no charge. As a
reference, here are Ipswitch's naming conventions.

8.0 is a major
8.1 is a minor (though in the past, has been referred to as a major)
8.11 is an update
8.1 Hotfix 1 is a hot fix.

Per earlier thread, we have not validated this with 7.x and typically just
support the current major (2006) and the previous major release and it's
latest minor, if applicable (8.2x in this case).

Bye for now,

kg

I just got off the phone with tech support after 2+ hours. They don't know
if it affects prior versions because the vulnerability was reported for 8.2.
He also let me know that if there is a vulnerability in prior versions we
have to upgrade to get the fix. I think I'll upgrade since 8.2 seems stable.

Kevin,
I've been on hold for 2 hours now with technical support just to find out if
pervious versions of Imail server before 8.2 were affected by these 2 new
vulnerabilities. Can you please shed some light on this? I need to know if
I'm ok or going to have to upgrade to 8.22. Thanks.
