I paid about $200 for smartermail and we dumped imail altogether. Smartermail handles many more emails per day with less CPU overhead than imail and we haven't had any problems with it. The webmail is better, too.
There are a few enhancements we're looking for and they should be out in version 3 within the next couple of weeks.
