Check out Neverfail. Simular to Double-Take, but fails-over back and forth
more elegantly. Unfortunately, a bit more pricey than DT. They may even have
an application specific module for Imail by now, as they do for Exchange, SQL,
etc.

Is Double-Take suitable for file server applications? (i.e. creating an HA
file server via replication instead of actual clustering?)

I'm hesitant to consider any product where they won't show the price on
their website until you fill out a quote form. Usually, that tells me it is
expensive and they are afraid of giving out the price until they have a
sales lead they lock in.

Is there any product (besides Microsoft cluster service) that is suitable
for building an HA file server configuration? I'm primarily interested in
solutions that don't require a shared SCSI quorum drive that MSCS uses - due
to hardware and other configuration issues that's the problem I'm trying to
avoid by not using MSCS.

IMail is fully compatible with Microsoft Clusters and third-party
clustering software such as Double-Take. If you're familiar with how
clustering works in general, you'll find IMail a generic,
easily-clustered set of services. If you're not familiar, that's where
you need to start. You need to be able to develop both business and
functional specs for your clustered environment, so that all parties
concerned know what you are and aren't promising, i.e. how you define
"high availability."
