Is anyone else having problems being blocked by Hotmail? We finally heard
back from the Hotmail support staff telling us that we are being blocked
because they use Symantec Brightmail and that Symantec is flagging our email
as spam. The Hotmail guy said there is nothing he can do and that we have
to contact Symantec.
We contacted Symantec and they said that there's nothing they can do. We
have to get Hotmail to stop blocking our IP. Here's his email:
Hotmail, at its discretion, temporarily blocks an IP if our software
tags high percentage of mails from the IP as spam. This IP block is
what you are experiencing.
You may want to restrict or completely eliminate automatic
forwarding of mails to
Hotmail/MSN. When your end-users are allowed to forward all mails
(spam and legitimate)
to Hotmail, your mailservers may look like sources of spam when that
really isn't the case.
There isn't much we can do on our end in this kind of situation. Our
software is rendering verdict
on individual messages. We have no control over Hotmail's IP block
list except to stop tagging
messages as spam (and even in this scenario, it would still take
time for the block to expire automatically).
Based on his message it sounds like you can get blacklisted just by running
a listserve. The guy didn't give any more information on why we're being
flagged as spammers.
