Dave,
The service management requires you to login with Windows privileges
(such as your administrator account). It would be wise to look at the
following:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20060214-JH01.htm
Also see the following for converting old address books into the new
style which is in an Access database:

Lastly, make sure that you don't have IMAP set to force subscribe
because it will cause issues with the Web client.

Well now, that would explain certain things. Like why the web
interface looks really nice. And, yes, why it says Imail 2006 right
there in front of my nose. I must have picked up the wrong file. That
would explain why the patched SMTP DLL for 8.22 didn't work.
Oh well, for better or for worse, looks like I've migrated to 2006.
So far, I just changed the graphics, so the branding issue is on the
burner, and the SMTP DLL is a non-issue.
So I still have the Mail-to-fax issue, and the admin access issue.

Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] 8.22 Installation Problems
<snip>
I'm having a few problems with my new IMail 8.22 installation.
3) The default web interface requires users to log in to
http://mail.somedomain.com/iclient.
4) There is an example of branding for the web interface, with some
sample
graphics from Mars or somewhere, and a sample XML file.
</snip>
You sure you installed 8.22? From your descriptions it sounds like you
installed 2006...
