I've had one case of this where the sender wasn't using our system and got a 550 message from imail. Since he's not a customer of our system and simply sent an email to our customer it makes no sense that he would get a 550.

The setup is Exchange on another server, and ASSP/Imail on the other. The change in this setup has been the Exchange server. Incoming email into ASSP/Imail is forwarded to Exchange in local domain. For outgoing email, users sent to Exchange and Exchange sends through the Imail/ASSP server. Nothing is showing up in the Exchange or ASSP logs as strange, just the Imail logs. Can anyone figure out the pattern that is happening here? The user sent one email, it looks like Imail resets and starts another delivery thread which goes hunting for DNS, I don't think it's finding it. Here is the Verbose logs for Imail on the most recent complaint I have gotten: 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [192.168.0.2] connect 127.0.0.1 port 2431 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [127.0.0.1] EHLO driller.com 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [127.0.0.1] MAIL FROM:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [127.0.0.1] RCPT TO:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> NOTIFY=NEVER 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com in HOSTS 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [127.0.0.1] DATA 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aeb) [127.0.0.1] D:\IMail\spool\Db253019900000aeb.SMD 1643 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [127.0.0.1] RSET 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [127.0.0.1] MAIL FROM:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [127.0.0.1] RCPT TO:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTP (0000000000000000) Info - Adding Queue file D:\IMail\spool\Qb253019900000aeb.SMD 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) processing D:\IMail\spool\Qb253019900000aeb.SMD 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com in HOSTS and MX 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com in HOSTS 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com by stack 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [127.0.0.1] ERR mail.driller.com invalid user <[EMAIL PROTECTED] 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [127.0.0.1] RSET 20061116 134747 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b253019900000aec) [127.0.0.1] QUIT 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [192.168.0.2] connect 127.0.0.1 port 2452 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [127.0.0.1] EHLO driller.com 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [127.0.0.1] MAIL FROM:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [127.0.0.1] RCPT TO:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> NOTIFY=NEVER 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com in HOSTS 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [127.0.0.1] DATA 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aed) [127.0.0.1] D:\IMail\spool\Db25901b200000aed.SMD 1605 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTP (0000000000000000) Info - Adding Queue file D:\IMail\spool\Qb25901b200000aed.SMD 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) processing D:\IMail\spool\Qb25901b200000aed.SMD 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com in HOSTS and MX 20061116 134753 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (b25901b200000aee) [127.0.0.1] QUIT 20061116 134801 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com in HOSTS and MX 20061116 134801 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com by stack 20061116 134808 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com by stack 20061116 134813 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) Info - Found dlcinvestments.com in skip list 20061116 134814 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) requeuing D:\IMail\spool\Qb253019900000aeb.SMD R0 T1 20061116 134814 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b253019900000aeb) finished D:\IMail\spool\Qb253019900000aeb.SMD status=3 20061116 134840 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) [x] looking up dlcinvestments.com by stack 20061116 134857 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) Info - Found dlcinvestments.com in skip list 20061116 134858 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) requeuing D:\IMail\spool\Qb25901b200000aed.SMD R0 T1 20061116 134858 127.0.0.1 SMTP (b25901b200000aed) finished D:\IMail\spool\Qb25901b200000aed.SMD status=3 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Don Brown Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 3:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] 550 not local host error Monday, November 13, 2006, 12:32:21 PM, Chris Moody <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: CM> -----Original Message----- [Snip] CM> Are you absolutely sure there's no prior (could be way earlier) CM> connect and EHLO for 99c801a800001bde? That is really strange, since the SMTPD process indicates there is a new/different connection in process. Do you have anything in front of Imail, such as ASSP, IMGate or some kind of virus scanner or proxy? Also, are you running anything else on the Imail box, which touches or affects the mail flow? Please turn on both debug and verbose messages for your smtp, if you haven't already. That may lend a clue, also. ---- Don Brown - Dallas, Texas USA Internet Concepts, Inc.
