We've been using the Allot NetEnforcer product for years but now that we need
something that can push >10Mbps to the Internet, we have decided to build our
own solution rather than pay the $$$ to upgrade the Allot.

We're basically customizing iproute and iptables on a Debian Linux box ...

We had considered trying the ETINC solution but were dissuaded by reports like
the ones here about the quality of the support. However, recently on another
list, someone mentioned that the support was actually quite good now. I wonder
if something has changed ...

I put it on a PC, but I also have multiple routerboards on our network.

  Randy:

Did you install it on one of their routers or did you just put it on a PC?

I probably should keep my mouth shut, but its been bugging me that I didn't
say anything in my first reply.

We used to use etinc's bandwidth manager. Its great software, but the support
is horrid. I mean really horrid, if you ask for support you get a response from
the developer (Dennis) basically telling you that you are an idiot and should
go read. We gave up it after a couple of years and decided to use Mikrotik,
which has been the best thing we've done.

Mikrotik is a router os, but also allows you to setup scripts. Scripts have
allowed me to setup some fairly dynamic traffic shaping that adjusts itself to
keep high priority traffic moving along. I am also able to add cheap bandwidth
via DSL and cable connections and run low priority traffic on those. If
anything goes down the scripts adjust my traffic flow until the circuit comes
back up, in which case it reverts to its previous state. If a circuit goes down
the scripts also adjust my traffic shaping to keep things moving along.

We too have the Allot Netenforcer in use here; works like a charm for us and
is more affordable then many of the other stand-alone solutions that we have
seen.

    Hi There,

We are using Allot NetEnforcer in my company to manage Bandwitdh and save
it. Mostly in P2P 'pipe'.
    Upgrades seems very expensives.

Any suggestions of another devices to handle it same/best way?

Just read about Emerging Technologies ( www.etinc.com ) with other kind of
control, besides adding transparent cache. Anybody using it?

    Waiting some advices,

    Regards

    Andres-.
