I have raised this before and would sure like to see it in IMail. To
me this is a far more important feature than SSL. I have several email
accounts in Sun servers running Sun Unix software and with these
configured on RBL I have yet to see a single spam message. With Imail
it is a genuine challenge to manage this with such a simple filter
system. With most competitors to Imail making this feature available,
I do not understand why it is not a major priority at Ipswitch.
I have not upgraded to 6.x because it has no major features I really
need. I need RBL and virus screening. My old 16-bit BBS software did
virus screening. Mail Essentials does it the low cost 'BBS' way with
simple command line switches to Norton or McAfee utilities. These are
now paramount features any mail system should have and most already do
or you can purchase third party software, like Mail Essentials, to do
at least virus screening. But in reality they belong in the mail
server software. I am very disappointed in 6.x features.
In Unix Sendmail servers you put the RBL file in and edit a single
configuration setting and you are done. If Imail doesn't supply such
features we will most likely be moving to such a setup rather than
upgrading our Imail. It costs virtually nothing to do this.
I mentioned these issues 6 months ago here, but Ipswitch has never
responded at all to any of these queries. Spam and Virus are the most
serious issues of all regarding email hosting, but there doesn't seem
to be any pending features addressing these most serious of issues in
Imail like other mail server systems are.
Maybe I'm being a bit frustrated, but last week the Happy virus got
through my Imail filter destroying a small business setup. Imail
catches it most of the time, but not all of the time. If I had been
running other mail server software, or third party software, I don't
think this might have happened. I not inclined to run third party
software that provides only a partial and very expensive solution.
