That's just the problem...they don't put out a mail server product at
all anymore. No upgrade possibilities, no support. Frankly, it doesn't
surprise me with the lack of quality in their initial mail server.

: Thank you. The only reason we're concerned is we're using Netscape
Mail
: Server which can NOT handle the traffic it's getting. Granted, it's
: 5-year-old unsupported software, but it's all we had in an emergency
: situation. Now that we have time to roll out a product properly, we
: want to make sure we do it right. We have no problems at all with
: bandwidth. We have our primary DNS server internally, and our
secondary
: is hosted out. Also, all mail is routed through our email virus
: firewall. I would imagine the majority of our customers send standard
: "Hi mom" messages, although we do have a reasonable number that do
send
: pictures and files. Thanks for the input!

I sympathize with you. We used version 1 of Netscape Mail Server and
became
a bulk mailer's dream as a result (no spam filtering or relay control).
At
the time, we were running a Pentium 166 with 128 megs of RAM
(underpowered,
but sufficient for our needs 3 years ago) and the box slowed to a crawl
at
10:00 p.m. with about 100,000 messages in its cue that it couldn't
process.
The CPU was so choked that I had to delete the messages remotely because
the
GUI wouldn't respond. What a mess. I hope Netscape is putting out a
better
product these days.
