We ran into this EXACT problem quite some time ago. The static IP issue is
correct if you are going to use ETRN to initiate the mail delivery. Imail
uses the hosts file on the machine it is running on to determine where to
send the mail when the ETRN command is received (this is a security issue to
keep anyone from dumping a domain's email to their own server). We went
through the same thing with having to reconfigure hundreds of dial-in ports
so that a handful of customers could get static IPs over dial-up. My
recommendation is to get one of the multidrop programs that will allow you
to dump all the email for that client into one mailbox and then have their
server check that mailbox. I can dig up some of those programs if you need
them.

We have a customer with an exchange server. They are going to use DSL, but
not for 30-60 days or so.

Ipswitch support tells me they need a static IP to do this. Do they need a
static IP to get email via a dial up? Anyone else run into this?

Our modems are not currently set up for static IP's. I would have to
reconfigure all of them to do so...
