Frank,
Sorry you are having problems, It really sucks to pick up where some one
else left off. (If only I had a dollar....)
Well anyway here is my two cents....
I have always found that with NT, some things just can't be explained...
(after spending hours, days, seems like years, searching Microsoft's website
for a problem I have run into.) So what I have done in the past is blow it
away and start from scratch... Setup a temp secondary Mail server (if you
don't have one) and reinstall NT and Imail from scratch.
I know this will be a major pain in the ass, but it's better than
wasting time and pulling your hair out trying to guess / figure out what the
problem is. Especially since you inherited this problem from the previous
Sys Admin. I recently fired mine and reinstalled all the servers just to be
on the safe side. We have 12 NT, 5 BSD and 1 Red Hat Linux servers
running.... It sucked... but I re-installed all of them and know exactly
everything that has been done to them and what patches have been installed,
etc.
Our IMail servers are running like a champ... the only problem I had way
back was I forgot change the hosts file after doing a class C change. Never
had to call tech support... ever.
BTW I would only run SP5. I have had too many weird things happen with
SP6. Plus our other servers run Cold Fusion and Oracle and Cold Fusion just
doesn't like SP6.
Good luck and have fun :)
