Len,
The 'Single Max Message Size' setting in the domain to which the sending
server connects. If your server connects to my imail.ipswitch.com (for
ipswitch.com) and I have it set to 2 meg, that is what the ehlo response
returns. If your server then attempts to send a message of 3 meg and uses
the correct Mail From: <> SIZE=3000000, the message will be rejected when
the RCPT To: is sent. If the Mail From: does not contain the SIZE parameter,
then the message will be sent, but upon reciept of all the data, will be
rejected. So SMTP Size, is used to tell the sending server that the message
is too large, before data is sent, therby saving the time and effort of
sending large amounts of data that won't be accepted.
If I have another domain (with an IP) and a server connect to that, then it
will send the value(SMMS) for that domain. If a Domain with no IP, it will
respond with the value for the Primary domain.
