That error message comes when IMail cannot connect to the host. It
you also see something like 'domain must resolve' after the
helo/ehlo lines from IMail, then the remote is doing a reverse
lookup on your IP and not finding the reverse record, or not
matching hostnames. Since Len says these are Sendmail machines, this
is quite likely.
