I did not catch this entire thread.  Is it the final conclusion that smtp auth works in a stable fashion with the patch?

I installed the 6.02 upgrade on Sunday to hopefully correct the smtp auth problem

maybe it's a typo, but what you want is 6.03 + the post-6.03 SMTP AUTH patch.
