Len,

Well, the log is not too clear about which service is getting the error, but
with the SYSLOG line just above it, I'm think it is that. So look for other
'system logging' Services and try shutting them down. If the stop/start of
the IMail SysLog service now does not report the error, then you have found
the culprit. Now, it could be other services, so while checking the
Services, look for 'duplicate' services. Usually the name will give you some
clue, like IMail shows 'IMail SMTP Service'. If you find some other with
SMTP in the name (or POP, IMAP, LDAP, etc), then stop them and stop/start
the IMail one and see which one causes the 10048 error to go away.

IIS V4 does install a SMTP service, if allowed and if your boss did not
change the defaults during the install, that is the most likely culprit! If
all was well before the IIS install, that is another clue, IIS services seem
the most likely cause.

Dan,

Thanks for your response. My manager did recently install IIS which is the
most likely culprit although he doesn't seem to thing it's a big problem
since things appear to be working correctly. I did try disabling the IIS
Admin Service and World Wide Publishing and then rebooting but I got the
same error message. And I didn't see any other mail services in the control
panel.

And while I did see the message that you refer to in the KB, the log does
state:

Log directory d:\imail\spool
SYSLOGD 991001, Copyright 1994-1999, Ipswitch, Inc.
Bind error 10048

So I though perhaps it might be something else.

Thanks again,

-Len
