Actual it is not the db, the same mail sent from the db server to an account
on the IMail server correctly show the from address, the EXACT same email
relayed on to an email account with a third party ISP some how loses the
from address.
Though when I tried it out sending to Len Conarad he sees the from address
so it might be a localised problem with my ISP..

I'd say the problem is almost certainly that your database server isn't
sending a "From:" field in the E-mails. You should check that software to
see what it is doing. Remember that there is nothing preventing you from
sending an E-mail with no "From:" field (all that the SMTP server cares
about is the "MAIL FROM:" in the message envelope, which is typically not
shown in the headers).
Check an E-mail that is sent to the local server. See first if the From:
header is there. If not, your database server app is definitely at fault.
If it IS there, see if there is a "Received:" header below it -- if so, the
database server app is still at fault (it got added in by a mail server
later from the envelope "MAIL FROM:" header).
