We schdule a .CMD file which "Start"s a new .CMD file for each server. The
.CDM file emits time and date info into the log for that server, and then
runs XCOPY with a series of options - for example, copying directory
structures, copying only more recent files, continuing after errors, etc.
All basic stuff divided out by major directory groups.
Recovery is usually as simple as dragging a backup version to it's original
path. Heavy recovery includes copying more files, or recovering first from
DLT tape.
To drive the tape we're using ArcserveIT.
Advantage of this is method is that it's entirely open and can include
access to remote servers and alternate platforms using FTP & variants if
necessary.
