>What I don't understand is why you stand behind a piece of software >like IMail. I've used it since '97, it works fine for us, but we don't push it hard. So I can't justify spending money to buy something else. At this point, the NT mail server market is very competitive, much more than it was in mid-97, to say nothing of what can be done with open source solutions. >We're having these damn SMTP problems again and they tell us >the same thing "copy all 19,000 backed up spool files to a temp dir and move >them in bunches to find the problem". yep, a f@cking nightmare. Sorry about your Sunday. Did Grant 8Legs get his similar pb fixed? >I've been at it the last 9 hours and I'm down to 11,000 >messages. This is bull crap. To put it euphemistically. >I finally told IMail to send all messages through one of our >exchange servers. PHEW! I love Exchange's MTA, it's great, not one >hiccups and they're all gone. which is nearly always the case with Imail. Can Exchange do virtual mailhosts? Doncha have to pay per each virtual host? Excuse me, I'm not a great follower of MS products, just an MS victim. Same with IMGate/postfix, but at a wonderfully cheaper price and much simpler setup and licensing. >I don't know what the hell the problem is with IPSwitch. They never >want a copy of >the culprit message, they supposedly don't know what it is, but don't want >any hints on fixing it. We're supposed to drool over the "new" v7.0 coming >out and they haven't even fixed these problems. yep, the SMTP client process needs to be made much more impervious to killer mgs. We've seen this pb here 3 or 4 time in the last 2 or 3 weeks. The SMTP AUTH and now POP3 login failures also need to be looked at. >Mail is GREAT when it comes to features, you can't beat it (We've >tried, and in all honesty, IMail rocks feature wise). Although, when you >get to the core of the product (The MTA), it's the most unstable, buggy >piece of software we've ever seen. I think the SMTPD server is quite solid, but yes the SMTP client needs serious work to harden it. It just can't stop delivering mail with the kinds of volumes the larger users are sending. SMTP AUTH apparently isn't quite there either, although they seem to have fixed some SMTP AUTH pb's. >It not only doesn't deliver the culprit message, but all messages >afterwards are queued indefinitely. What is the deal IPSwitch? You'll have to ask them. Len Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
