We use (and recommend) the forwarding file method for both spam & virii at
this level.
We also have a utility (IMFILTER) for managing the forwarding rule(s) needed
to do this.
Having the messages show up in another account allows us to forward them
back to the user if we catch one that is not _really_ spam or virii... then
we adjust our rules to let those pass.
Using the IMail client on the mail server allows us to do this without
"being seen" by the user.

We tried doing the same thing with similar results. We ended up using
rules.ima at the host level and sending the E-mail to Null so it just
disappeared. I would have preferred to send it to a dedicated virus mailbox
also.

Second, I'm tinkering with my RULES.IMA file, and I'm not sure that IMail is
following the documented stuff. The manual (pg 72, Chapt 5, "Mail
processing

to which messagess meeting the rule criteria will be sent. If you want the
message to got to a particular mailbox, follow the user ID with a hyphen ad
mailbox name, such as [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So, I'd like the system to re-route any suspect message to a special mailbox

have called 'quarantine'. My user ID is 'bdurland'. So I have a rule that
looks like this:
S~ILOVEYOU:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Then I send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of 'ILOVEYOU'.
The rule intercepts it, but instead of putting it in bdurland's quarantine
mailbox, a new folder called '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' is created
in jdoe's user folder.
There must be an easier way to do this than setting up a forwarding file for
each user.

I'm new to Imail server and need a comprehensive virus protection system for
my server. I'm getting hammered with the Love Bug and other assorted visual
basic script stuff. Could someone tell me what rules I can set to stop all
.visualbasicscript stuff (so your stuff doesn't trap) or of some commercial
products that will protect my email server and my users from this sort of
stuff. I appreciate it!
