Looks like you walked into a network problem, I suspect. I think you are on
the right track with that Proxy/Firwall theory. You really need to know how
his network is setup it looks like.

Actually, he hired me to put in imgate quickly because he thought his
machine had been overloaded and was very slow recently and that
imgate would offload some work, but I found anomalies in trying to
telnet to his machine which I think are still biting shim now. The
weird thing is the message IMGate now has, saying the Imail queue is
overflowed. IMGate is still moving msgs at a 50K msgs/day rate, but
look at his IMGate stats for today so far:

you can see the huge drop in throughput at 1500-1600 hours. and that
was preceded by the huge jump in deferrals (queued msgs) at 1100-1200 hours.
