Yes, that does mean IMail is looking in the HOSTS (not LMhosts) file. Yes,
all TCPIP stacks use some form of HOSTS file (even though you think not!).
It should contain:
127.0.0.1 localhost
w.x.y.z host.domain.com
(your IP and host+domain names, as found in TCPIP settings, without which,
one might encounter 'local' name resolution problems!)

Other entries in HOSTS file needed if Primary domain in IMail uses hostname
that differs from TCPIP settings and if IMail configured to 'Store and
Forward' for other domains (see manual).

With SMTP Security, Relay, set for Anyone, IMail will accept ALL email. That
does not mean it is capable of delivery to the destination (although with
good addresses and DNS, it should be able to deliver anywhere).

Log seems to be missing the communications between your server and slam1's,
so it is hard to say why it did not accept the message. Seems to think
'slam' is not a user in 'slam1.com'. Maybe your DNS is not returning the
correct IP for his mail server? I was able to connect to slam1.com and it
does think 'slam' is a valid user. And it accepted messages for delivery to
that address, regardless of what 'Mail From:' I used. My guess is that IMail
connected to the wrong host because it did not get the right info from DNS.

OK, I got most of my dns woes fixed, I thought. But I still cannot send
e-mail to this non-local account. I am worried that other users may be
experiencing similar problems and not realize that something is wrong.
Also there is a line in the log below saying imail is looking up slam in
HOSTS. Is this referring to the hosts file in NT? I am not using LM HOSTS.
This email address is not a local address. He is a friend on another
service. He is the only account I have ever knowingly had this problem with.
I have not yet turned off relaying (pending resolving dns issues) so there
are no local hosts files to look for, no settings checked to make imail
look.
