To be perfectly honest, I have rarely used the SysLog myself, so cannot say
exactly how it handles the disk writing. Since I have set it up on my
computer now, I'll do some looking and get back to you. However, this
computer only processes my personal email (or other test stuff I do), so the
load is normally very low.
I can say that I did look at the date/time of the log file yesterday and it
did update quickly, after I sent a message (as I expected and similiar to
using other methods). That would tell me that any 'chunking' is done fairly
quickly and may be limited in size or time.
Maybe one of the other Ipswitch people will provide us with more details now
that I have admitted my limited knowledge of the subject.
I would have to agree with you Steve, about the effects, at least in
general.
