Eric,
Well, without more information (like from log files) it is hard to say what
is happening. But, it sounds like the IMonitor portion of IMail is running
and that is what is restarting the SMTP service. That too, should be
recorded in the log files.
Of course, you do need SP1 for W2K.
I just telnetted to mail.neosmart.com, on port 25 and IMail shows it has had
ove 27,000 connections since the last restart. Now if your system is very
busy, that could be just a few hours or less, but if not very busy, that
could be several days, instead. Are you really sure the SMTP service is
'stopping'? What are you using to see the SMTP service 'bouncing' up and
down?
