Do all of your sender@senderdomain's have A and MX records for each 
senderdomain?

of course, the @senderdomain would be the same even when relayed 
through another server to AOL.

Agreed, we haven't seen AOL required the sender mail server have a 
correct reverse.  In fact, it's very difficult anybody in general to 
use reverse as a rejection criterion since so many mail servers don't 
have their reverse set up. I don't run in on my IMGate due to too many rejects.

yep, your experience certainly indicates that mail sent successfully 
from your server to AOL is not being delivered while your mail 
relayed through another server to AOL is being delivered.

btw, this AOL delivery pb has been discussed on the ISP-NT list. No 
resolution that I saw there.

All I can think is that there must be some subtle DNS pb with your 
@senderdomain or you MTA that AOL is detecting after its MX gateways 
accept the mail but before delivery to their mailbox servers. But 
that sounds too complicated for them to implement for their mail volumes.
