If you are saddled with the difficult-to-shake legacy of users whom 
you can't switch to SMTP AUTH, then ok, but you must assume that will 
get hijacked and spammed, sooner or later.  ie, the inconvenience of 
the users in now learning how to use a secured mail server is weighed 
agains the your inconvenience (and theirs) when a spammer or bomber 
or whatever slows down or stops your server.
