Here is how Vinca standby server operates:
You cluster hardrives on first and second server (you also cluster IP that
way). It is a logical mirror, so whatever gets written to the first disk,
also gets written to the second in real time over dedicated crossover link.
However, clustered disk is only visible on the first server, second server
has it hidden. If you lose your first server, second server detects the
failure and activates its own, previously hidden disk, that was second part
of the mirror. The info on it is completely identical to what was on the
first server before the failure.
After you repaired first server and got it back online, mirror is
synchronized again, this time from disk on server2 to the disk on server1.
Next, after synchronization is complete, you move so called "failover group"
from server #2 to server #1 by single mouse click. This puts your disk on
server2 back in hidden state and reactivates disk on the fist server. It
also moves clustered IP address back to your original server.
