so here all you do is have redundancy of mail reception. For all your hosted or 
downstream mail domains, run 2 IMGates as MX 10 and 20, put the second one offsite on 
the end of your DSL line.

The client 1) runs his own mail server or 2) you host his mailbox server?

If the former, then with MX 10 burned down, the client's mail piles up at MX 20 relay 
hub.  The client just has to have his mail server ETRN to your MX 20 and you have to 
tell MX 20 the ip of the client, and his mail server picks up its mail from your MX 20.

If the latter, then you have to have a backup mailbox server (meaning a 2nd Imail 
license) which you can't do with Imail facilities alone but need some kind of 
clustering solution for failover.

of course, Imail does this.

They have nothing to do with each other:  ETRN is SMTP protocol for moving mail around 
and POP is POP3 for reading mailboxes.
