I'm just fixing to purchase SQL Server 2000 and a Dell 1500 (1U)
which only holds 3 drives and maxes out my budget. I was planning to
use all 3 drives for a RAID 1 setup with an 8 GB partition for W2K
and SQL Server and a 10 GB partition for data. Being 3 drives, if I
make one separate, it won't be RAID and I'll lose the redundancy on
that drive. I just can't afford a bigger box now and the additional
rack space cost.
What about all that? What if I create 3 partitions. One for OS/SQL,
one for data, one for logs? Is that going to make a difference or
should they be separate physical drives?
