I've been noodling around an idea for a while, and wanted to get some
feedback from
the list. The concept is putting *everything* for a customer on a single
server - Web,
FTP, Imail, SQL. Of course, give it a gig of RAM, and fewer customers.
The reasons? First, a single IP address would work for 99% of our customers,
who only
have one website and domain mail service.
Second, a single folder could contain *all* of their files, for webs, logs,
mail, etc. This would
give us the ability to do "space used" reporting without going to four
different servers.
Third, moving customer(s) from server A to server B would be much easier,
and makes clustering
easier as well.
The point of this is that hardware is cheap compared to admin time needed to
manage
services on several computers.
