Kevin,
'Stack Connect Fail' message come only _after_ 'MX fail Connect' messages
unless the DNS IMail is using is not giving the MX records to IMail. See it
tries each MX in turn, and when those fail, then the IP for the 'domain
name', and that is what gives the 'Stack' error message. If you never see MX
Fail messages, then I suspect you have big DNS problems.
If you see something in the log that says 'Domain must resolve' from the
remote servers, then that is the PTR record not matching the host name, or
as you said, the data has not yet propagated. The sites you mentioned do use
sendmail servers and use the reverse lookup before accepting email. Other
sites that do not, should not pose any problems to you IMail/DNS
combination.
So yes, give it some time and if you have made all the DNS changes
correctly, and the DNS server is working good, it can be some time before
everyone gets and uses the new data. Of course if your TTL is too long, that
can also contribute to the time you have to wait!
